VIDEO GAMES
Take a look at Doc's list of current and completed games!
Gamer, welcome to my website! My name (Gamertag) is DrLukeTheDuke and I have a passion for video games. I have played video games since the Atari 2600 age, as I was born in 1984, I have had multiple consoles, played many genres of games (FPS, adventure, RPG, etc.) and have dedicated time in my life to play these games. Why? Because video games have helped me in many ways. First, they have helped me relax and recharge from long days in the office working. When I play, I can completely clear my mind and focus on something completely different; zone out any work problems and get recharged. Also, I have played video games and worked (20 mins to 45 mins) on assignments, etc., which has improved my time management. Second, I have seen my hand-eye coordination increase over the years – I have developed faster reflexes and can control multiple buttons with my hands and mind. Going from the Atari controller (with button and stick) to the new controllers of today with ten buttons or so, you learn and adapt and figure out new ways to hold the controller so that you can increase your gaming skills. For example, to improve my PvP skills in an FPS game, I changed the way I was holding my controller (e.g., claw formation), and this is the only way I currently hold modern controllers now – as I can push both the top R and L buttons at the same time. Thirdly, solving puzzles to complete a quest or a level has increased my critical thinking skills and brain development. I remember playing Goldeneye 007, where you had to memorize the path to get the golden gun – the process of solving that challenge I still use today. Furthermore, I have felt the dopamine released in my brain as I solved a puzzle that stumped me for days (or weeks), as my mood increases (positively), and I can concentrate clearly to finish other work! Fourthly, playing with friends and family members have increased my internal bond with them. I feel more comfortable talking, listening, and discussing with them. And lastly, utilizing modern-day technology, like Discord, Twitter, Youtube, etc., I have been able to get into gaming communities that I never realized existed (learn new things), and playing with virtual friends has increased my social and communication skills—for example, asking politely to do raids and being clear and concise on times and days that you can help is key for excellent communication. There are more things that video games have helped me become a better person. Please, check out my Youtube channel for more information, and I hope this quick discussion connects to you in some way and that you can understand how video games have benefited me!
